Monumental Stupidity - NHTSA
Today’s commentary is about a study conducted by researchers at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2003. They had embarked on a study of 10,000 cell phone using drivers to determine what if any risks were incurred. Well to borrow phraseology from Nancy Grace, ‘long story short’ - The result of the study defined risk caused by driving while using a cell phone was equal to that of drunk driving. Okay so now what? What are they going to do about it? Waiiiit a cotton picking minute… It is 2009 and those figures are from 2003, why the delay?
Why the delay you ask? I’ll tell you why my friends. Because the results of this research was never released. That is why. This is wrong on so many identifiable levels. The comment from within the Administration saying that there was a fear of angering congress gets to me. The goings on, likes and dislikes of congressmen (including cell phone usage while driving) has now usurped the right to safety over all other Americans - the very safety they were paid to endorse and protect. And then how about all of those hard earned tax dollars that went into funding the project?
What I would like to know is how many people have died as a result of those study results being shelved all of those years. Sounds to me like a lawsuit or two may be in order. What kind of a Mickey Mouse show occurred here? How could a government administration see the need to make sweeping change in the name of safety as they did, yet have chosen to turn a blind eye. We are talking human lives here my friends. Are these people overpaid to the degree they have lost the reality concept that those tax dollars paid to the study were hard earned by people? People that spend working hours away from family and enjoyable activities while trying to get by? Those dollars I see as your blood, sweat, and tears people. Is it our national duty now to fund such asinine goings on?
One thing I found ironic is that this is the same administration that consistently issues vehicle part recalls… Yeh yeh, remind me that I am Canadian why don’t you. Such stupidity happens here too. Happens in many nations but that doesn’t make it right now - does it?
And that is my blog menu offering for the day… You might want to choke this down with a Pepto Bismol chaser…
